Anyone who has been around a millennial knows that they are hard to reach. For marketers, this can be a big challenge. With a buying power of over $1 trillion, selling to millennials is a must. Here are some ways your business can increase marketing to millennials and better grab their attention.
Convenience is key
In a world where millennials recently reported that washing a cereal bowl is too difficult, teens and young adults are all about convenience. They want to have things right here and right now, and they want it to be easy. Don’t make your products or services inaccessible, or something you have to work for. If you make it easy to find and access, millennials will follow.
Make it mobile
Teens and young adults are constantly connected to everyone and everything through their mobile devices. If you want to reach them, you have to be mobile, too. A lot of shopping is now done online and through smartphones. If you sell something online, make sure that your product will be just as attractive on a smartphone as it is on a computer. You have to make your product stand out, even on a small screen. That being said, make sure your mobile site is up and running well, and that it is aesthetically pleasing.
Make everything shareable
Let millennials do some of the marketing for you! Make content such as blog posts, videos and photos all shareable; If one person shares it, then that content is likely to reach a lot more people. Millennials are sharing content constantly and if they can extend your content to other millennials, they can help you sell your product or service.
Social, Social, Social
Going along with making all of your content shareable, make sure you are reaching out to millennials through social media. Constantly keeping up with social media trends is important. That not only means connecting to millennials through new and popular social sites, but also paying attention to trending topics, memes, and videos across social media. If you can get a millennial’s attention through a viral video, do it.
If millennials are scrolling through their Newsfeed on Facebook, they are more likely to watch a video than read a lot of text. Fun, engaging videos are guaranteed to get a millennial’s attention. Videos also provide a way to showcase and demonstrate your product or service in a variety of ways. When you create a video for your brand, be creative! If you can make your videos cool and different, millennials will be sure to watch your videos and share them.
Make it unique and harbor creativity
If you can sell a product or service that is unique or market an existing product or service in a unique way, you are already more attractive to millennials. You can be unique and harbor creativity in your marketing by connecting your efforts with a local cause; starting a campaign that embraces hashtags or holding a social media contest suited to your company. Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb in your marketing techniques. If it is different, great! Embrace the weird, millennials like it. Also, remember that if your product or marketing technique is something they will want to show off to their friends, then you probably have the millennials’ vote.
Get to know the millennials you are marketing to
Getting to know your audience is always important as is learning more about specific groups of millennials you plan on selling to.
